KFM supports The Havens
Over the past few months, KFM have been supporting The Havens, a network of specialist sexual assault referral centres, located in Denmark Hill, Paddington and Whitechapel. Along with delivering required stock to The Havens, KFM have also set up storage areas for toiletry packs on site, which are given to individuals under The Havens’ care.
Previously, the toiletry packs (which contain 10 essential items such as shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste) were stored off site at a warehouse. This meant that charity staff, working in partnership with The Havens, or clinicians were having to use up time and resources to go off site to collect the packs and distribute them across the three sites.
Clare Williams, Interim Chief Nurse & Executive Director of Midwifery at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: "This is a great example whereby The Havens team identified a logistical problem and the KFM team came in with an immediate response of ‘how can we help’ – a truly outstanding team.”
KFM were able to quickly understand the problem and worked with the team at The Havens to identify a solution. As a result, KFM has taken on the responsibility of storing and delivering the essential packs from a centralised location, at no cost to The Havens. After working with The Havens to agree a required stock level, these important packs are now safely stored and distributed on a monthly basis, saving clinical time and putting charity funding to better use.
Lorette Runacres, Matron at The Havens, explains: “KFM delivering the toiletry packs to sites, moving the stock to another site and clearing this site have hugely helped. This has enabled us to get a regular supply and doesn’t rely on me to transport them! This also means we don't run out, so are able to offer toiletry packs to all our clients who access the service.”
An additional benefit to KFM providing this service, is that staff working at The Havens can be assured of stock availability with there now being clear visibility of stock levels as well as automatic stock replenishment. Furthermore, having a dedicated storage facility means stock is also properly stored which will lead to a reduction in damaged goods, and therefore waste.
Simonas Petrasiunas, Logistics Manager, KFM’s Supply Chain & Clinical Procurement Directorate, adds: “The Logistics team is happy to be a helping hand in supporting Haven sites and services. I think that this is another great example of how collaboration between KFM and Trust colleagues can free up clinical time and charity funds to improve these vital services. Working together gets it done!”
