King's Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) joins KFM on six-month secondment
Exciting news at KFM as we welcome a new addition to our team this month. King's College Hospital's ODP, Sajidha Rahman, joined our Clinical Procurement team for a six-month secondment at the start of April.
This secondment offers advantages for both King's and our clinical procurement function. With Sajidha's unique clinical perspective and insight from areas such as Theatres, Endoscopy, IR, MRI and Cath Lab, we anticipate quicker and more efficient procurement processes, leading to improved patient care and streamlined operations.
One of the big projects Sajidha will be involved in is IV standardisation, which will affect every clinical area across the Trust. This will include working with suppliers and clinical teams to source an appropriate standard IV pack, which will see significant cost savings, greater consistency and deliver better outcomes for patients.
Sajidha Rahman, from ODP to Clinical Procurement Specialist, said: “The idea of stepping outside of the theatre complex into the offices seemed like stepping into a new dimension. But I am thrilled I took the step as now I am working with an amazing team here at KFM. With an abundance of warm welcomes my first day nerves quickly settled. This position will provide me with the opportunity to engage in several projects Trust wide, which wouldn’t normally come up in my role as an ODP. It will open the doors to strategise the clinical concerns and impacts that arise in line with Trust targets i.e. sustainability. As well as develop new skills and take on more responsibilities, overall enhancing my clinical practice.”
Adam Broad, Director of Supply Chain & Clinical Procurement and Sue Carr, Lead Clinical Procurement Specialist Practitioner, at KFM, said: "We are excited to welcome Saj to our Clinical Procurement team. As a registered ODP with prior experience in main theatres at Denmark Hill, Saj brings a wealth of knowledge and skills that will benefit our team. Bringing onboard a clinical background from KCH is a valuable asset for our team, it provides us with a unique perspective when procuring medical devices and consumables or seeking alternative options. With immediate access to a clinical point of view, we can quickly identify the most appropriate consumables and speed up the procurement process. Additionally, we can ensure that our procurement practices are effective, ultimately leading to cost savings, improved patient care, and a more sustainable approach to healthcare. Saj is eager to learn and understand the relationship between our organisations, as well as contribute to exciting new projects in development. We believe that this secondment will provide Saj with valuable career development opportunities and enhance her professional portfolio."
We look forward to seeing the incredible benefits that this collaboration will bring over the coming months, as well as enhancing the standard of our clinical procurement operations to continue delivering a high-quality service to our customers.
