KFM secures an NHS General Management Trainee

KFM has successfully secured an NHS General Management Trainee (GMTS) for a two year programme commencing September 2022 through the NHS Leadership Academy.

The scheme has been running nationally for 66 years and this year, the London Academy received 108 applications for 37 training places, so a fantastic achievement for KFM.

An induction and orientation plan is being developed for the graduate and they will shadow most departments across KFM during the first two months to give them a good understanding of how the organisation works.

Kerry Johnstone, KFM’s Head of Operational and Strategic Delivery, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that KFM has secured a GMTS from the NHS Leadership Academy. Many high-profile NHS leaders started their leadership journeys as trainees on this scheme. It is therefore a great opportunity for KFM to contribute to the development of a potential future NHS leader! I am sure we can provide a positive experience that may result in an annual pipeline of trainees at KFM."

Year one is an operational role with the second year having a strategic focus. The graduate will undertake the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Leadership Programme alongside their placement with KFM to obtain a PG Dip in Healthcare Leadership.

It is a key element within the NHS Long Term Plan to nurture the next generation of leaders by systematically developing those with the capability to reach senior levels of the service. Notable alumni include both the former Chief Executive of NHS England, Sir Simon Stevens, and the current Chief Executive, Amanda Pritchard.
